Raising Laborers For the Harvest Fields
The Kenyan church has great potential in missions. There have been many conferences and consultations on missions and many encouraging resolutions with regard to the sending role of the Kenyan church. Unfortunately, there has been a big gap between knowledge and action.
To fulfill our role in the Great Commission, we need to urgently bridge the gap between intention and action. What we need now is prompt obedience to what we have heard. We must respond now to the cry from the ripe harvest fields. The Church must free itself from the pursuit and pull of materialism that has taken a lot of our energy and be passionate for what God is passionate about—seeking the lost!
The Lord has blessed this nation with a growing church. The majority of the people God is adding to the Church are young students in high school and colleges. It will be a great blessing to connect them with the mission field, for the harvest is ripe but the laborers few.
One distinct thing among this emerging generation in the Kenyan church is their eagerness to serve the Lord. Among the Kenyan University Christian communities, we have a growing number of energetic and enthusiastic young people who are eager to be involved in cross cultural and local outreach.
What they need is someone to empower, mobilize and give direction. There is a wide open door for mobilization of students for volunteer missions, and the time for ministries called in this area to act is now! God has raised and commissioned SVM2 to step in this gap and mobilize volunteers for missionary work from among the student community.
The process of mobilization will be first and foremost a prayer process as we seek to connect the emerging generation with God’s harvest fields in God’s way. The process will also be a pooling together of the efforts of various ministries that are working to equip and mobilize students for missions.
Our vision is to see an army of student volunteers reaching lost souls in areas where many have feared to venture before. We see an open door and we trust God for grace and strength to mobilize volunteer missionaries.
“The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it.” – Psalm 68:11
