Cell Phones 4 Missions
Student Volunteer Movement 2 is partnering with Integrity Cell Phone Recycling to sponsor indigenous national student mission movements, particularly in non-western contexts, which mobilize thousands of new message bearers to serve among the unreached.
Turn your cell phone into message bearers for the unreached!
This creative way of supporting the work of SVM2 also helps to make our environment cleaner.
Facts that you and your friends should know!
- One cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water.
- Cell phones (and other electronic devices) contain toxic substances such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and beryllium that can pollute the air when burned in incinerators and leach into soil and drinking water when buried in landfills.
- Cadmium can damage the kidneys and it is transferred through the air and through our food.
- Lead accumulates in landfills and can cause damage to the central and peripheral nervous systems.
- Mercury gets into our water supply and accumulates in living organisms and travels up the food chain. The principle exposure pathway is through our food and it causes brain damage.
- Cell phone recycle campaigns are good for our environment because all collected cell phones and electronic devices are either refurbished or disposed of using only the most ecologically sound methods.
Ways You Can Host a Cell Phone Drive

- As a campus ministry fellowship – host a one month cell phone drive
- As a Bible school student – host a one month cell phone drive on your campus
- As a business or office – donate the business’ old cell phones
- As a teacher – put a box for cell phones in your teacher’s lounge and announce the drive among your colleagues
- As a youth group or local church – host a one month cell phone drive
Getting Started
- Set up a box. Use this poster and attach it to a box in a highly trafficked area in your church, school, or workplace.

- Send it in. Once the box is full, fill out the online form at svm2.net/cellphones4missions. Follow the instructions to register your donation online and make sure to specify SVM2 as the charity. Within 48 hours, you will receive a follow-up email with shipping instructions.
